AN ELDERLY woman's little Yorkshire Terrier was mauled to death by a dog which forced its way into her garden.

The 82-year-old woman, who lives in Stornoway Road, was devastated to find the pet she had owned for 12 years had been killed on her own property.

It was attacked by what looke like a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier which was being walked at about 8.50am on Sunday when it pushed its way through a fence.

The owner then ran off.

Police are now appealing for information to identify the owner in an effort to report him for offences of failing to keep a dog under proper control. He was white with a tanned complexion, of stocky build, and was wearing shorts and a straw style hat.

Anyone with information should call PC Luke Williams at Southend police on 0300 333 4444.
