HUNDREDS of fundraisers dressed in bright costumes and completed a night-time half-marathon in Southend to raise £142,000 for charity.

More than 1,200 people set off from Chalkwell Park at 8pm on Saturday to walk or jog their way along a 13-mile route.

The course took in Southend seafront and Westcliff’s picturesque cliff tops, before moving through Chalkwell and Old Leigh and finishing back at Chalkwell Park.

It was the fourth annual Moonlight Colourthon and raised cash for more than 200 different charities.

Countdown star Rachel Riley and Olympic swimmer Mark Foster got the event under way and then completed the course themselves.

Earlier in the day children took part in the Sunlight Colourthon, a timed walk around a shorter circuit, and raised a total £3,500 for their chosen charities.
