PUPILS dressed up as pirates and sailors to celebrate the opening of their new £4,700 nautical-themed garden.
The garden was designed by youngsters at William Read Primary School, on Canvey, who helped paint underwater images on the floor.
It also features three fibreglass dinghies and will be used as an outdoor classroom, as well as an area for pupils to eat their lunch.
The project, opened by Castle Point mayor David Cross, has been funded by a £4,000 grant from the Royal Bank of Scotland’s charity Learning through Landscapes, and £700 raised by the school.
