SOUTHEND is celebrating National Armed Forces Day in style this weekend.
The Southend Salutes event is two days of family fun activities, entertainment and a parade in recognition of our servicemen and women of the past, present and future.
Chalkwell Park will host the fun between 10am and 5pm on Saturday Second World War re-enactments, flight simulators,a climbing wall, a 1940s-style tea dance, and Essex Boot Camp’s ‘Survival of the Fittest’ competition.
On Sunday from 10am to 4pm southend High Street will host stalls, and entertainment with the highlight being a parade of veteran and serving armed forces, which starts from Tylers Avenue at approx 12.45pm They will march to the top of the High Street in Victoria Circus where an open air service will be held at 1pm and the the Royal Artillery Field Gun will sound.
