SOUTHEND Council is being praised for reaching more than 85 per cent of its targets to improve services for residents.

Latest figures reveal that the council has reached or exceeded more than 85 per cent of its corporate priority targets, which is the best ever performance of this kind.

Improvements include reducing the numbers of young people not in education, training or employment, exceeding targets for dealing with planning applications by up to ten per cent as well as almost halving the target for the number of households in temporary accommodation.

The results emerged from the corporate priority indicators, which are part of the council’s corporate plan for 2009 to 2012.
