FIVE fearsome fish are the newest additions to a Southend aquarium.
Five wolf fish have just arrived at Sea Life Adventure on the seafront – all named after characters from the Twilight films, which are about vampires and werewolves.
The monsters of the deep are Edward, Alice, Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett.
Displays supervisor Lizzie Smith said: “Wolf fish are actually much more like vampires than wolves.
“They’re cold-blooded and produce a natural antifreeze to keep their blood moving fluidly in their extremely cold habitat of the Atlantic Ocean. With teeth just like fangs, they’re awesome creatures.”
Curator David Knapp said the fish were an endangered species.
He added: “These Atlantic wolf fish were bred in captivity and donated to us by the MacDuff Marina Aquarium in Scotland. Out in their natural environment they are at risk from climate change.
“By having this display, we are also hoping to draw attention to the effect global warming is having on the natural world, and how aquariums are all working hard to ensure certain species do not die out.”
