SHOPPERS donated more than £1,000 for Bosom Pals.
Organiser Malachy O’Sullivan, from Shoebury, along with 15 other volunteers spent Saturday carefully chalking out the name Bosom Pals on the pavement outside Jessops, in Southend High Street, and arranging the coins around the name, which raised £1,001.
The annual fundraiser saw shoppers dig deep and contribute to the collection of coins to raise money for the charity, which buys breast screening equipment for Southend Hospital.
Mr O’Sullivan said: “It went very well. But the rain kept washing the chalk away and we had to keep drying the coins. In the end we just accepted donations from the public and put the money away.”
