A HOST of big band top names will be in one place as Belvedere Jazz Club welcomes a big sound tomorrow.

Mervyn Wright’s Big Band Legends will be at the popular jazz night on Wednesday, with a 20-piece outfit making for a night of big band swing.

A tribute to the golden era that saw the peak of big band popularity, there will be music made famous by names like Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Glenn Miller and Quincy Jones.

The outfit features the talents of musicians including singers Paul Wood and Colin Anthony – who along with trombone player Ray Wordsworth is a regular in the UK Glenn Miller Orchestra.

They regularly pull in the audiences at such venues as the Cilffs Pavilion, Westcliff , so it’s a chance to see the music in a smaller venue.

The band also features names like Roy Willox, Chris Smith, Brian Dee and Harold Fisher, who have all played in the Ted Heath Band. Mervyn Wright’s Big Band Legends are at the Belvedere Jazz Club, the Belvedere, Harding Elms Road, Billericay , from 8pm. Entry is £10.
