The Echo says the proposed museum to be built into Southend’s seafront cliffs “is a truly stunning piece of imaginative design” (Dec 17).
In design terms, it’s a neat piece of work. Unfortunately, it will be in the wrong place.
A building of this scale and complexity on the seafront cliffs will dominate and destroy what little is left of the original cliffs vista.
It will, however, be in keeping with the over-scale monstrosity that is the Pier Hill lift and the awful light towers just erected to the east of the pier.
Southend Council is destroying what little class and style remain in this godforsaken town of ours.
This is Southend, where people go for a day out by the sea, bit of fresh air, some chips and a laugh.
Stop trying to turn us into what we are not and accept the town for what it is.
