As a Southend resident and a property owner within the flood zone, I am concerned by Tracey Chapman’s recent comments about flooding.
One must not dismiss the enormity of the damage caused in the 1953 flood and the fact that lives were lost.
I am all too aware of what a virtual lone voice Brian Efde has been for some dime (Dec 21). I believe his expose of information associated with the flood risks in our area are worthy of attention.
The most concerning comment expressed by Ms Chapman is offered with a measure of ignorance with regards to making reference to insurance companies refusing cover on properties, including the Great Wakering area.
If a householder is refused insurance by one company, they are obliged to reveal the fact of another insurer.
As chairman of the Essex Flood Partnership, I believe Ms Chapman has a significant responsibility to those potentially at risk by putting a greater effort into informing the public accurately, rather than quell the efforts of a man and an organisation that in the fullness of time many people will come to an thank for his perseverance in these matters.
