Whatever happened to the buses on Saturday afternoon after the snowstorm?
Cars were moving along, albeit it slowly, so why did the buses stop, stranding crowds of Christmas shoppers in Southend?
As the traffic was moving so slowly I knocked on the window of a car driven by a woman and asked if I could have a lift.
She took me to Leigh and then I hitched another lift with a woman to Thundersley.
Both these drivers were willing to give me a lift and we had a good chat as the journey of about six miles took an hour and a half.
So, the inconvenience of buses not running had a happy ending.
It’s not often I get the chance to chat to two such helpful women. Snow is not all bad – it can bring out the best in people.
I can’t think what I would have done if they had refused me a lift.
