SOUTHEND is set to have a starring role when a programme featuring funnyman Russell Kane in his hometown is aired this weekend.

Russell was filmed doing a special set at the Palace Theatre as well as introducing the world to some of his favourite spots in the town when he took part in the comedy series for TV channel Dave - in a show which sees comedians go back to their roots.

In the trailer for the programme he can be seen mimicking the 'Essex walk', to the delight of the packed crowd, and poking fun at the distinctions between Southend and the apparently superior Westcliff.

He takes a cheeky swipe at well to do Chalkwell types, crying: "He's mocking us, heckle him with a quails egg, take that you brute, with a tomato - that's sunblush - want that in your face do you? Take that!"

Russell Kane's performance will be on Dave's One Night Stand this Sunday November 7 at 10pm on Sky channel 111, Virgin TV channel 128 or Freeview 19.
