A SUCCESSFUL one-off event has prompted a more regular get together for the over 55’s.

Rochford District Council, Rochford Housing Association and Southend United Community and Educational Trust put together a free special exercise class for residents aged over 55 at Millview Court in Rochford.

The event was to promote National Falls Awareness Week and it aimed to increase people’s health and physical activity as well as giving information to help reduce the risk of falling.

15 people attended the session at Millview Court and it is now set to become a regular event. The same team also runs the “Fit for Life” sessions in Hullbridge, Great Wakering and Hockley which are designed to encourage everyone over 50 to gradually become more physically active.

Mary Lyons, Rochford Housing's scheme manager at Millview Court, said: "The residents thoroughly enjoyed the exercise session, it was great to see so many of them getting up and giving it a go.

“Sheltered housing is about providing an independent lifestyle in a community-style environment and these sessions are ideal to bring the residents together, while encouraging them to stay active and improve their general mobility at the same time."
