I was surprised to read (June 28) how FitzWimarc School headteacher Jim Fuller had “turned the school around, tightened up on discipline and boosted standards”.

Having served at the school for more than 20 years, I know from first hand experience what an excellent reputation FitzWimarc had gained in both academic and sporting achievements under the dedicated lead given by both Derek Riches and David Cox, the two previous head teachers.

I suppose most of us like to receive the praise that follows success, but I think it would have been the mark of generosity, and possibly humility, to have acknowledged the firm foundation laid by these two men on which further success has been built.

To ignore the debt owed to them is, in my opinion, disrespectful and insulting.

...I was surprised to read how Jim Fuller “turned the school around”.

This phrase suggests the school had, in some way, been failing before he became the headteacher.

Nothing could be further from the truth and I think that such comments are an insult to his two excellent predecessors.
