I have been riding in the Progress Road area of Southend for 30 years, crossing the A127 to Hockley Woods, Edwards Hall park and Jubilee park, linking up with Gusted Hall. These bridleways are off road and safe.
I and fellow riders find the A127 increasingly dangerous to cross due to the volume of traffic, even leaving on a Sunday at 6am we find on the return journey, the traffic has built up to an unsafe level.
Southend Council now has ample funding from the Government for when it makes the changes to this junction, and a horsefriendly crossing should be put in place, enabling all riders to cross in safety.
Some of the busiest roads in the country have horsefriendly crossings.
I know we are a minority group, but we still have a right to cross this road in safety.
I hope the council takes on board all riders’ views so we no longer have to put our or our horses’ lives in danger.
