Two people were injured when a lorry caught fire on the M25 near Brentwood today.

Essex Police were called to the motorway between junctions 27 and 28 close to Brook Street Roundabout after reports of a vehicle fire shortly after 12pm today (May 7).

Firefighters from Essex Fire and Rescue Service attended alongside police and found a flatbed lorry alight at the scene.

The road was fully closed for over an hour while emergency services dealt with the incident.

National Highways said an air ambulance was sent to the location.

Traffic was brought to a standstill, with delays of over one hour reported by National Highways.

All lanes have now re-opened after one lane on the M25 remained shut while officers carried out recovery work.

Traffic is now flowing normally.
