No trains will be running on the c2c network for one day next week as train drivers are set to strike in their long-running pay dispute.

The Aslef union is embroiled in a near two-year long dispute, with no talks held for more than a year.

Passengers are being advised to check before they travel between Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, and Saturday May 11.

Drivers at 16 train companies, including c2c and Greater Anglia, will strike for 24 hours on three consecutive dates between Tuesday and Thursday, and there will be an overtime ban on all train companies from Monday to Saturday.

Rob Mullen, c2c managing director, said: “I’m really disappointed that an agreement with ASLEF hasn’t been reached. The impact of this ongoing action is significant for our customers and colleagues.

“I’m hopeful that further meetings with the unions are productive and see progress made toward concluding this challenging time for the railway.”

Friday May 10

A Rail Delivery Group spokesman commented: “Train companies are working through plans to manage the unnecessary disruption to our passengers caused by this damaging industrial action – minimum service levels are one potential tool for that but they are not a silver bullet.

“In the meantime we remain committed to resolving this dispute and our offer, which would take average driver salaries to £65,000 for a four-day week without overtime, remains on the table.”

Aslef says its members have not had a pay rise for five years and accused the Government of “giving up” trying to resolve the dispute.
