Many Southend visitors and residents may be wondering why scaffolding has gone up at the city's Cliff Lift this week.
A photo shared by volunteers shows the temporary structure around the landmark as works are being carried out.
Southend Cliff Lift's Facebook page revealed the landmark is getting a facelift, as they posted: "Our cliff lift getting a makeover...last painted in 2010, so it did alright."
The council has further confirmed the cliff lift is undergoing "end of season maintenance and repair works".

These works come during a milestone year for the treasured attraction, as it was recognised as a site of historical importance at a special ceremony. It also celebrated its 111th birthday.
The lift was honoured by the National Transport Trust’s Red Wheel Scheme which celebrates the most significant transport heritage sites in the UK - with a commemorative red plaque unveiled at a ceremony by Southend’s mayor Stephen Habermel to mark the achievement.
It was only re-opened last year as the popular lift, built in 1912, was closed during the pandemic due to its size meaning there was no room for social distancing.
