A DELIGHTED headteacher is set to see her pupils take centre stage, now a brand new theatre has been approved for their school.

Sue Jackson, headteacher at Lee Chapel Primary School and Nursery in Basildon, has spoken of her joy after the addition was backed unanimously by Basildon Council on Tuesday night.

It is hoped the theatre will enhance the school’s post-pandemic curriculum - set to include drama, public speaking, dance and music - give the children a safe environment to perform and will be available when the school isn’t using it for community performances.

Mrs Jackson said: “The theatre and the activities therein will be transformational in terms of helping children to regain their confidence following three national lockdowns and shine in every sense of the word - both on the stage and in the classroom.”
