A PROVISIONAL post-mortem found that a woman at the centre of a murder investigation died after she was stabbed.

A woman, aged in her 20s, was found unresponsive at a property in Laing Road, Greenstead, Colchester, at around 5.35am on Sunday.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police have yet to reveal her identity, a provisional cause of death has been given suggesting she died of stab wounds to the neck and torso.

Adam Butt, 21, was charged with murder and appeared via videolink at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.

Butt, of Laing Road, is expected to next appear to enter a plea to the charge and remains in custody.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “At this stage we are not in a position to release any further information about the victim and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.”

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

The spokesman added: “If you have any information about the incident please call our Major Crime Team on 101 and quote the crime reference number 42/8907/21.

“Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
