A SUSPECT is being quizzed by detectives after police launched a murder probe following the death of a young woman.

Essex Police said they are treating the death of a woman, who was aged in her 20s, as murder after she was found unresponsive inside a home in Laing Road, Greenstead, Colchester, early on Sunday morning.

Police were first called out to the address at around 5.35am.

Neighbours reported receiving visits from police throughout Sunday.

Nick Guy said: “We were visited by the door-to-door police but we have no idea what happened.

“I was shocked when I saw all the officers because it is pretty quiet around here so to wake up to this is just surreal.”

He added: “It just makes you wonder what happens behind closed doors and you cannot help but worry when it is right on your doorstep.”

Stephanie Louise, who lives near to the scene, said police officers were meticulously searching the area from early Sunday morning onwards.

She said: “The police were going door-to-door and searching the drains and the bins from about four in the morning.”

A 21-year-old man, from Colchester, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remained in custody for questioning yesterday afternoon.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We believe that the parties involved were known to each other.

“At this time we are not looking for anyone else.”

A post mortem examination will be carried out to try to establish a cause of the woman’s death.

An inquest into her death will also be held in due course.
