The number of recorded coronavirus cases across the whole of Essex increased by 423 over the last 24 hours, official figures show.

In the Essex County Council area, Public Health England figures show that 19,698 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today, up by 327 from 19,371 the same time on Wednesday.

 

In Southend the figures show that 2,355 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today, up from 2,318 the same time on Wednesday. That is an increase of 37. 

In Thurrock, 59 new cases were confirmed. 

 

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 17,555 over the period, to 1,574,562.

Essex's cases were among the 81,975 recorded across the East of England, a figure which rose by 1,108 over the period.
