School students are isolated after a number of Covid positive cases were confirmed.

The youngsters at Basildon Lower Academy have tested positive for the virus.

School leaders said arrangements were made for home schooling and there are no cases at Basildon Upper Academy.

Gary Smith, Headteacher of The Basildon Academies, said: "I can confirm we have had a small number of positive cases of Covid-19 within The Basildon Lower Academy. We have worked in partnership with Public Health England and The Essex & Southend Contact Tracing Service, following their advice and guidance.

"All decisions have been made in partnership with The Essex & Southend Contact Tracing Service. The Basildon Lower Academy remains open.

"Providing education for all of our students is our primary purpose and we will continue to do that. Students required to self-isolate have access to our remote learning programme that includes lessons recorded by our teachers.

"We are following the government guidelines over non-attendance to school; from the start of the Autumn Term 2020, pupil attendance was made mandatory and the usual rules on attendance applied. We have not issued any penalty notices in relation to Covid-19 absences.

"There have been no positive Covid cases reported at The Basildon Upper Academy."
