A PERSONAL trainer has paid tribute to her dad by raising close to £1,000 for the hospice charity which cared for her parent in his final days.

Tania Fisher, from Leigh, ran 150 miles in memory of her dad Brian, who was cared for at Fair Havens before passing away last year.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Tania had set her sights on completing a series of fundraising challenges to help Havens.

However, most of the events Tania was intending to compete in – including the Three Peaks Challenge and Ibiza Four Day Challenge – were postponed.

But, with her being eager to raise much-needed funds for Havens, Tania decided to take on 150 miles throughout the month of October.

She said: “Completing 150 miles in October was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I’m not a natural runner and had to run 37-and-a-half miles on average each week.

“During the challenge I had to have a day or two off from the running because my legs were aching so much and I was completing the miles alongside my job, which is in fitness.

“The days out of action meant my miles were building up so I ended up having to run the remaining 55 miles in five days during the last week.

“Thank you to my clients who were amazing. They all pulled together and, for the last couple of days, we ran a mile loop near to where I live as warm-ups.

“They supported me and kept me motivated on my final laps. They were amazing and I don’t think I could have got through it without them.”

Tania also completed the Blenheim Triathlon, where she conquered her fear of open water swimming, before taking on her latest challenge.

The personal trainer is now closing in on her target of raising £1,000 by Christmas.

Tania’s fundraising has been welcomed by Havens, which was forced to cancel events due to Covid-19.

Jane Hopkins, voluntary income team leader at Havens, said: “This is such an incredible fundraising challenge and we can’t thank Tania enough for raising these much-needed funds for Havens Hospices.

“Because of supporters like Tania we can continue to provide our essential free hospice care to children, young people, adults and families whenever they need us.”
