Parts of Old Leigh were submerged in water after being hit by flooding yesterday afternoon.

Pictures of the high tide show water making it's way onto pavements, surrounding cars and even trickling onto the high street.

And flooding even surrounded the old Leigh Fisherman’s Co-operative, which was gutted by a fire back in September last year.

Chalkwell beach was also submerged in water during yesterday afternoon's antics as the Chalkwell Lifeguards Club volunteers were put on notice due to a storm surge tide.

Volunteers were on emergency flood alert standby from 2pm on Thursday (November 19), and the group say flooding was made worse by the closure of the Thames Flood Barrier which was shut to protect parts of London from flooding.

Fortunately, calm weather meant the flooding was less dangerous than otherwise.
