Three men have been arrested after a disturbance in Braintree, where gunshots were heard being fired.

A footpath, which connects Bailey Bridge Road and Panfield Lane, has been cordoned off by police following the incident last night, which residents spotted at around 7am this morning (Saturday, November 14).

Three men are currently in custody for questioning after reports of an argument and what sounded like gun shots had been heard at an address in Bailey Bridge Road just after 11.40am yesterday, (Friday November 13).

Officers were quickly on scene and three men were arrested on suspicion of firearms and drugs offences.

A 45-year-old and 19-year-old from Braintree, and 18-year-old from Haverhill remain in custody.

Essex Police has now confirmed that at this stage, they believe it was a targeted incident.

It's believed that three policing units and a number of officers currently remain at the scene, while the force continue their enquiries.

Access to the footpath also remains blocked, whilst traffic in the area appears to be unaffected.
