A STUNNING former farmhouse in Hockley has been sold at auction for £1.1million.
Partially listed Mount Bovers Farmhouse, which is set in 3.5 acres of grounds and surrounded by open countryside, was snapped up at auction.
The four-bedroom property approached via private Mount Bovers Lane, with electric gates leading to a sweeping driveway, also has a large detached barn, a picturesque lake and bridge along with tennis courts.
While it is unusual for such a prestigious property to be sold by auction, such sales are growing in popularity due to the speedy conclusion of a sale.
Mike Gray, managing director for Dedman Gray, said: “Whilst it is unusual to offer for a superb home like this by auction it is becoming more and more popular to think about the auction sale process for all kinds of properties, including Mount Bovers Farmhouse.
“The main reason for doing so is that the seller wanted to conclude a quick sale and completion to take place before the winter sets in and that’s what happened.”
Mr Gray added: “There were over 12 inquiries just before the auction and six viewers leading up to the week of the auction. To help with a move of this kind the lot was offered with an extra two weeks to complete so six weeks instead of four weeks.
“By selling in this way it allowed the seller to confirm her own arrangements and secure her onward move in the area.
“The whole process for the sale from start to finish takes eight to ten weeks but would be much longer on the open market.”
