A teenager has been disqualified from driving for three years after performing dangerous manoeuvres in Basildon while being pursued by officers.
The 17-year-old boy from Maldon district, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Monday for dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified and failing to stop when directed.
He admitted the offences and was ordered to complete a 60-day youth rehabilitation order and to pay £400 compensation, £85 court costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
On March 19, right before the UK went into lockdown, police officers stopped a car in Basildon and began making their enquiries with the driver.
He provided them with someone else’s driving licence before driving off with officers in pursuit.
The driver then performed several dangerous manoeuvres including overtaking cars at 60mph in a 30mph zone.
The suspect vehicle was stopped in a road in Borwick Lane, Wickford, after being blocked in.
He attempted to run off but was caught by the officers in a nearby field at around 4pm and arrested.
