Here is a round up of some of the cases that came before Southend and Basildon Magistrates' Courts in August.

Jason Savage

A THUG who beat a woman and damaged her door has been spared jail.

Jason Savage has been given a community order after the assault, which happened in Southend last year.

The 36-year-old of St Lukes Road, Southend, appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on August 28 where he was sentenced for assault by beating and criminal damage.

On November 27 last year, Savage attacked the woman by beating her, and then damaged the front door of her home.

The magistrates’ bench chose not to send Savage to prison following his guilty plea at the court.

The bench instead gave him a community order which will last until August 27 next year.

He must complete 60 hours of unpaid work within that time.

All of this work will be supervised by the probation service.

If Savage fails to carry out the unpaid work in that time, or continues to miss any of the appointments, he will be in breach of the community order. This means he will be brought back to the courts.

There is a chance that he will then be sent to prison.

Daniel Wilson

Daniel Wilson, 23, of Moltons, Pitsea, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court on August 28.

He admitted stealing a wide variety of items on July 13 last year, including a vest, five trousers, three polo shirts, two hooded tops, a coat, torch, Addidas trainers, gloves, bag, balaclava, three T-shirts, Goodmans lavalamp speaker, Velvet plush bedding, mirror foliage, a magazine, bedding and a dog toy.

He was given a three month suspended prison sentence and must pay £500 in compensation to the victim.

The thefts took place on December 16 last year, and included soap products along with Lindt chocolates worth just over £160.

The matter was resolved with Allison agreeing to pay compensation to Boots to the value of the items he stole.
