A PROTEST will be held in Rochford to encourage an MP to put pressure on an airline to save more jobs.

British Airways workers and constituents in Rayleigh and Wickford are calling on Mark Francois MP to join more than 280 MPs who have pledged to review the firm's "fire and rehire" plan on thousands of its staff.

The MPs have signed a pledge calling for government action after cabin crews were told to accept an enhanced redundancy package or risk losing it by applying for a similar job on lower pay.

Now, the campaign, BA Betrayal, are taking the fight to MP Mark Francois to increase the pressure on the government to act.

They will be holding a demonstration outside Rochford District Council's offices on South Street on Monday at 10.30am.

A Survation poll of over 2000 people, including more than 1,219 BA passengers across the UK, revealed that 69 per cent of all those surveyed believed the government should review the UK's current arrangements on landing slots, with 76 per cent of Conservative voters backing a review.

Unite executive officer Sharon Graham said: "Many thousands of BA workers are being subjected to the most brutal ‘fire and rehire' strategy. British Airways are a national disgrace and actions against them will continue.

"So far, over 280 MPs have added their name to our call for BA’s privileged landing slots to be reviewed and the numbers continue to grow. BA scorched earth approach will have consequences."

A spokesman for BA previously told news publications that it was acting to preserve "as many jobs as possible" and that the airline industry faces "the deepest structural change in history" and called on Unite to consult them on the proposals.
