CANVEY Coastguard is attending an incident at Thorney Bay this morning.
Residents have spotted police and coastguard crews at the scene in the early hours of this morning.
A helicopter was circling the area for around an hour from 4.30am, with witnesses spotting a lifeboat in the water at around 5.30am.
A Canvey Coastguard spokesman confirmed they were attending the incident but could not release any further details at this time.
Police cars were also spotted at the scene.
Update 11am: Police were responding after a man found a pair of shoes and a note near the seafront.
