YOUNGSTERS competed and showed off their abilities during a socially distanced school sports day.

Pupils and staff at Greensted Junior School in Basildon refused to let the Covid-19 pandemic get in the way of their fun.

Echo:

The staff said they worked hard to maximised the use of their space to ensure all children were given the opportunity of returning before the summer break in separate groups known as bubbles.

This meant using every spare space in the school. They also wanted the children to experience the many fun aspects of the summer term and so held bubble sports days where the children were able to experience the fun of sports day, minus the crowds of parents, of course.

Echo:

There were plenty of activities and sports to try out during the events and lots of the school children were delighted to be handed medals for their impressive efforts and performances in the various sports and activities.

Echo:

The children loved the chance to get out in the sunshine and also get active in a social distanced way.

Lyn Everitt, Director of Sport at the school said: “We didn’t want our children to miss out on the experiences they would have normally had.

“We’ve had to adapt – as have they – to a new world and the children have responded brilliantly, enjoying a fabulous day competing and having fun in true Greensted spirit.”
