AN award-winning Southend salon is looking to bounce back from lockdown by enjoying more success.

Taylors Hairdressing, on Alexandra Street, was hoping to build on an impressive 2019 which saw the business clinch the people’s choice gong at the Essex Salon Awards.

But the coronavirus pandemic resulted in numerous traders across the country going out of business and Taylors Hairdressing feared for their future despite their triumph less than 12 months earlier.

Chris Taylor, owner and manager of Taylors Hairdressing, is pleased to have seen his business and the local community bounce back.

He said: “We closed the business a few days before the official lockdown for the safety of the staff and customers without knowing how we were going to pay bills and also the unknown of when we would be able to reopen.

“They were very stressful times for everyone and we were worried as to how we could support 25 members of staff when we had to close our doors during lockdown.

“But, as a country, we were all in this together and will always find a way out.

“We reopened on July 4 and have put many measures in place to ensure the safety of our customers and staff.

“We will also be launching a Covid-19 video on our social media platforms, which will give customers an insight into what to expect on their salon visit.”

Taylors Hairdressing opened their first store in Rayleigh in November 2006 but expanded their business by purchasing their Alexandra Street site in June 2016.

The business has continued to grow, with them now boasting more than 19,000 followers on Instagram, and their progress was rewarded at the 2019 Essex Salon Awards as Taylors Hairdressing got their hands on the people’s choice accolade.

Mr Taylor, 36, was overjoyed after claiming the coveted prize.

He added: “Winning at the Essex Salon Awards last year felt incredible.

“It was fantastic for the team to get recognition because they have worked so hard.

“Coming out on top in the whole of Essex in the category was amazing and we couldn’t ask for more.”

Mr Taylor believes his staff set Taylors Hairdressing aside from other salons in south Essex.

He admitted: “We love what we do. Members of our teams in Southend and Rayleigh have colour degrees, work for L’Oréal in their artist team and also for Racoon hair extensions’ artist team.”

Every week we will be unveiling our Trader of the Week as we look to champion local businesses across south Essex. To nominate your own business or somewhere you enjoy visiting, simply complete our form or email danny.rust@newsquest.co.uk.
