A CROOK has been sent back to prison straight after she came out for shoplifting.

Sally Burrows was released from prison this year after serving a sentence for a separate crime.

However, shortly after being released she went straight back to her criminal ways.

On June 30 this year, the 45-year-old of Cattawade Link, Basildon, was caught stealing a selection of meat products from the Sainsbury’s store on Cricketer’s Way in the town.

The total amount of meat came to £136.09.

Several days later on July 9, Burrows was caught trying to steal items from the Pound Stretcher store in Basildon, the value of which were unknown.

On the same day, Burrows assaulted another woman by beating her.

She appeared at Southend Magistrates Court on July 16 where she admitted assault and two counts of theft.

The magistrates bench felt a pre-sentence report was not necessary in Burrows’ case as her going to prison was inevitable as it had been such a short time from her leaving prison and offending again.

The bench jailed Burrows for a total of 12 weeks.

She must also pay £68 in compensation to the Sainsbury’s store upon her release from jail.

She will serve at least half of her sentence before being eligible for parole.
