The New Saints manager Scott Ruscoe was pleased to see a number of his players making the JD Cymru Premier team of the season again on the back of the recent campaign.

Four Saints players featured in the starting line-up of the team, with one more player making the bench.

A midfield four consisted of three TNS players in Ryan Brobbel, Jamie Mullan and Aeron Edwards.

Left back was Chris Marriott, while forward Greg Draper featured on the bench.

Ruscoe praised those who made the team for another strong season, and insists more of his players could have made the team.

He said: “I think the whole eleven players could have made the team as they have done in previous years – but that is me being biased as their manager.

“I believe and think my players are the best in the league, but some managers have voted in favour of players at other teams.

“Connah’s Quay were helped by winning the league and they have some decent players in there this season too, credit where credit’s due, but I still think in every position there are not many players from the league that I would take and put into our squad.”

Ruscoe reflected on the successes of the players selected for the side in the past season.

“If Greg starts or comes off the bench, he’s brilliant for TNS, you know what you’re going to get with him,” he said.

“You know if he does get a chance, nine time out of 10 he will put it away.

“Brobbel has been great for us the past few years with assists and goals, and he doesn’t miss many games.

“Jamie was hampered with a few little injuries last season, so we missed him in spells, because he was excellent the season before too.

“Chris in left-back has been brilliant and our captain, and plays just as well as a centre-back.

“Aeron had another good season – again a few little injuries hampered him, but overall a very good year.”
