Forensics officers and a police cordon was spotted in a street following reports that windows of a car were smashed, and a car owner was threatened.

The officers and cordon was spotted in Mellow Purgess Close in Laindon, on Saturday at about 11am. Residents also reported seeing a number of police units searching the residential street over the weekend.

One police car was spotted guarding a small alleyway where a police cordon was set up.

Police say two people have been charged in connection with the incident and are due in court today.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Two people have been charged following an incident in Viola Close, Basildon.

"The windows of a car were smashed at about 8.45pm on Friday, June 19. The owners of the car also reported being threatened.

"Michelle Kelly, 35, of Mellow Purgess Close, Basildon, was arrested and charged with criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

"Junior Jefferey, 34, of Marden Ash, Basildon, was arrested and charged with two counts of common assault and one count of threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place.

"Both are due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on June 22."
