A COMMUNITY support group has been left speechless after its hard work was recognised by a top official.

The Colne Engaine Community Response group has been handed a certificate of recognition by Essex’s High Sheriff for its work to support residents during the lockdown.

The group was formed to combat problems thrown up by the current pandemic and has tried to help residents with essential tasks, such as shopping and picking up prescriptions.

The group has grown to have more than 80 volunteers working for them while operating out of the Five Bells pub in the village.

Group founder Spike Townsend said: “We are all feeling very proud and extremely grateful. It was a really nice surprise.”
