A MAN suffered life-changing injuries to his hand after being stabbed during an assault in Westcliff.

The 30-year-old victim was attacked with a knife in Westborough Road, near its junction with Electric Avenue, at 3.35pm on Friday.

Essex Police rushed to the scene and arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

Part of the area was cordoned off whilst police investigated the crime scene.

Shocked residents reported several police vehicles and officers in the area throughout much of Friday afternoon.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "He remains in custody. The victim remains in hospital for his injuries, which have been described as possibly life changing.
