PLANS have been unveiled to convert a popular restaurant - which operated for 50 years - into an office, shop and a take-away.

The proposals have been drawn up for a change of use of the ground floor from restaurant to retail with retention of an existing takeaway.

The plan also includes a self-contained office and smaller take-away staff area at Chinese restaurant Lon Wah, London Road in Wickford.

Last September the Echo reported how the restaurant owners announced plans to close the restaurant after 50 years but keep a take-away business open due to “over-head costs” and a lack of “experienced, quality chefs.”

Basildon Council is set to make a decision on the plan by Saturday July 18.
