A SEAFRONT guesthouse is staying open just for key workers to do their bit to help during the lockdown.

Several NHS workers are having to leave their homes due to the risk of them bringing back coronavirus and infecting vulnerable people living in their household.

Gleneagles Guesthouse in Westcliff is urging those who need it to stay with them where they will do everything they can to make sure workers are okay and have everything they need, while abiding by the government’s social distancing measures.

The guesthouse’s advantage of having seaview rooms may also be calming and relaxing for those key workers who are struggling in these distressing times.

Upon arrival, guests will find their keys for them to pick up themselves, which are all sanitised.

Garry Lowen, or wife, Penny, owners of Gleneagles Guesthouse, will give the guest a welcome and a briefing from two-metres away.

The 61-year-old, said: “We’ve had three doctors in so far, a driver delivering medical equipment and a couple of guys doing traffic management for City Fibre.

“We thought we would stay open for the key workers to help the community and we are also offering a special rate for them.

“We have adapted all of our processes on social distancing and have adjusted our cleaning regime.

“We are cleaning all of the handrails every three to four hours.”

Garry and Penny have received praise from key workers who have stayed at Glenagles Guesthouse since the couple decided they would stay open for them.

Garry, added: “All of our key worker guests have said how marvellous we have been.

“We have really tried to offer a personal service that you just wouldn’t get in the big chains.

“We had one doctor in for seven days as he was self-isolating and he checked in and we didn’t see him again, but we have been texting him to make sure he is okay and has all he needs.

“For breakfast arrangements, we can leave it outside the room, or guests can come and eat in the breakfast room where we have spaced out the tables.”

The Lowens have also been running a delivery service for afternoon tea which has proved very popular. Garry, said: “We have also started offering afternoon tea takeaways, which have been going down a storm.

“Especially for those who are trying to cheer up their mums and nans, or older relatives.” www.gleneaglesguesthouse.co.uk
