CHALKWELL Park's play area for smaller children has been cordoned off by police and officers are guarding the area.
The cordon was in place at the Westcliff park around 11am today although it is unclear at this stage what has happened.
A resident who was out walking his dog in the park, said: "I saw an officer walking towards the scene with a police dog and it looked like there was CID there.
"Hopefully it isn't anything too serious but it must be big enough to shut off the park which is used by the babies and toddlers."
The larger, main play area has been closed by Southend Council following the Government's advice amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Essex Police have been contacted for comment.
