A FAMILY pub is set to re-open... just weeks after it closed unexpectedly.

The Woodmans Arms, in Thundersley, closed suddenly late last month and will re-open this Saturday with a relaunch party.

Faye Thomson, the new landlady at the popular pub, told the Echo the previous owners had to give up the lease due to “personal reasons”.

The 44-year-old, has invited Shortround - a rock band - to perform on Saturday evening, after their performance two weeks ago was cancelled because of the closure.

Ms Thomson has ambitious plans for the future of the pub, adding: “I’m hoping to install a marquee in the garden, which will be home to afternoon tea.

“Groups would be able to book it out for events or baby showers - something like that.

“I want to turn it back into a pub again, rather than restaurant-focussed. I’m bringing back Sky and BT Sport.

“As well as a pool table and a dart board.

“It will still be a family friendly pub, and really family-orientated.”

Faye, who has worked at the pub for two years, added: “It felt like the natural progression for me.

“I’m really pleased that I’ve been given the opportunity to run a pub for the first time.

“I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve got no plans to extend or expand the pub. Families and children love using the garden, especially with the barbecue and the play area out there. My parents used to run a pub when I was young. I’m so pleased that I’m here.”

A spokesman from Shortround, who are set to perform from 8.30pm on Saturday, said: “We are back at the Woodmans Arms.

“Technically we should have played there a few weeks ago, but they want us to play the opening night now.

“There was loads of interest for the gig that didn’t happen, so let’s make it a night to remember.

‘We are thrilled to be asked to play the opening of the Woodmans Arms this weekend.

“It’s fantastic news that they are back, and we want all the regulars of the pub, and our followers to support this great business.”

The pub’s previous owners said at the time that they “would be closed for a few weeks” but denied any closure rumours. They thanked their “loyal and very valued customers”.
