A man was knocked unconscious during a fight outside a pub.
Police were called at around 11.30pm last night with reports that a man was seriously injured outside the Jolly Friar Pub in Whitmore Way, Basildon.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was involved in an altercation with a group of men.
One of the men then punched the victim, who became unconscious and fell to the floor, hitting his head.
The group then ran off.
The man was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
