A MOTHER was left outraged after being told her child’s school had lost him on a traffic awareness trip.

Daisy Hill flew into a panic after receiving a phone call from Fairhouse Primary School, Basildon, telling her police were out looking for her six-year-old son Perry Parsons.

Perry somehow managed to walk home by himself – a journey of about a mile.

Daisy, 26, from Basildon, said: “I was in bed with the flu when I got a phone call from the school saying ‘we’ve lost your son and the police are out looking for him’.

“I rushed outside, not knowing whether to look for him or to stay in case he came back.”

She added: “I’m amazed he managed to get himself home in one piece, I found him at the bottom of our block on the Craylands Estate.”

Daisy said she was incredibly relieved to see him, adding: “I ran to him, grabbed him and held him so tight.

“Anything could’ve happened in that time – he could’ve been killed, hit by a car or kidnapped walking along those dangerous roads and crossings on his own.

“It must’ve been at least half an hour before I was contacted for him to have walked to our house, as I found him within two minutes of getting the call.

“The school said it was only eight minutes – so either they didn’t ring me straight away or didn’t realise he had gone.”

Daisy believes Perry wandered off after being scared by bullies.

She said: “I had a meeting with the headteacher asking for something to be done, but didn’t get anywhere.”

Daisy added: “He knows it’s wrong for him to have wandered off and we’ve had words about that.

“But there should have been measures in place to stop a six-year-old from doing that.

“I didn’t even know they were taking him out.

“Perry says there were only two teachers out with the whole class of kids, but the school have said there were three.”

Daisy has reported the incident to Ofsted.

She added: “I want to find out who is responsible, why he went out without my permission and why he wasn’t wearing a high vis. How did nobody see him leave?”

A school spokesman said: “There has been an incident in which a child ran away while on a school trip.

“The school and the CEO of Berlesduna Academy Trust are currently investigating.”
