A teenager was used by “extremely violent individuals” to transport an alleged murder victim whose body was found dumped in the road, a jury heard today.

Shoaib Shafiq told the police he did not know if Mohammed Feazan Khan was dead or alive when he drove, him covered in a bloodstained cloth, to Saffron Drive in Allerton, Bradford, in the early hours of July 1 last year.

Shafiq, 20, of Gladstone Street, Bradford Moor, Bradford, and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named because of his age, plead not guilty to assisting an offender.

Shafiq, who was 19 at the time, told detectives: “I am not responsible in any way shape or form” for Mr Ayaz’s death.

He said he was “horrified” when he was sent a Snapchat message showing an injured man lying naked on the floor at Denholme Business Centre.

When he arrived, he saw a man mopping up and he was told to drive a Ford S Max.

He was directed to Saffron Drive where the naked body was thrown out of the boot.

Shafiq did not get out of the car and was ordered to “drive, drive” straight afterwards.

He said that if he had refused to drive the vehicle he would have ended up in the back with the person under the cloth.

Junaid Hussain, who denies murdering Mr Ayaz, known as Fizzy, told the police he heard him say “let me die in peace” as he was beaten by a group of men acting like animals.

Hussain, 28, of Silverhill Road, Bradford Moor, Bradford, told the police he “never laid a finger” on Mr Ayaz but saw others attacking him as he lay bloodied on the floor.

He said Mr Ayaz was attacked “out of the blue,” it wasn’t planned.

He was drunk and threatening: “I am going to grass you all up. You’re all going to get arrested.”

Hussain told officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team he said: “Leave the poor lad alone, he’s had enough.”

He saw Fizzy struck on the head with a bottle, hit with a stick and punched and kicked.

“He was bloodied up. His white socks had turned red and his face had opened up,” Hussain said.

When he left the unit, Fizzy was still alive and talking.

Also on trial denying murder are: Suleman Khan, 20, of Sandford Road, Bradford Moor, Bradford; Robert Wainwright, 26, of Mannville Terrace, Bradford City Centre; Raheel Khan, 27, of no fixed address; and Stephen Queeney, 34, of Junction Row, Bolton Road, Bradford.

Raheel Khan admits manslaughter.

Suleman Khan told the police he did not murder Mr Ayaz but he made “no comment” answers to most questions.

Wainwright told the police it was his twin brother Rivel Waskie who was caught on CCTV at the business centre that night but then admitted he was “taking the piss.”

He said he knew nothing about a murder. He did not know Fizzy but he was “supposed to be a really nice young man.”

The trial continues.
