A MAN has been left in a critical condition after an attack in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Police are appealing for information following the assault in St Ives in the early hours of Wednesday, which has left the man in a critical condition in hospital.

The victim, aged in his 20s, was assaulted by another male and suffered a serious head injury at around 1am on The Terrace, police said.

He has been taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.

Officers are appealing for information to identify the suspect, who is described as being around 6ft tall, aged in his early to mid-20s, with short, dark hair and facial stubble or a beard.

He was wearing a distinctive pink and yellow floral print Hawaiian shirt, which was unbuttoned over a white t-shirt.

The man is said to be of a fit appearance with wide shoulders. He was in the company of two other men who walked off in the direction of Carbis Bay following the assault.

Detective Inspector Glenn Willcocks said: “Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area who witnessed the assault.

“Specifically, we would like to speak to the man wearing the Hawaiian shirt or two friends he was in company with on New Year’s Eve.”
