A BRAND new bar and restaurant will open on Southend’s seafront in the New Year – on the site of the failed Bourgee restaurant.

Restaurant 300degress will officially open on January 16 on Eastern Esplanade, with a menu ranging from traditional pie and mash to gourmet burgers.

The bar lounge is set to be open on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, before the full site is up and running next year.

A series of restaurants have previously occupied the site, but without huge success.

Bourgee closed in April 2018, with sister restaurants in Chelmsford and Bury St Edmunds closing as well.

A new branch has now opened in Chelmsford

Residents are keen to see a restaurant return to the prominent Southend site.

Julie Shaw, 63, said: “I may be old fashioned but I always think it’s exciting when any new restaurant opens.

“It is somewhere new to try, and it is always a different atmosphere.

“Me and my husband still enjoy going for a meal out, or taking the family so we will give it a go.

“Hopefully it lasts a bit longer than the others.”

When it fully opens, the restaurant will run from 5pm to 10pm on weekdays, and from noon to 10pm on Saturdays.

On Christmas Eve, the bar will be open from 5pm to 10pm, and on New Years eve from 5pm until “late”.
