A MAN arrested after an incident which left a school in "lockdown" has been released by police.

Lincewood Primary School, Berry Lane, Langdon Hills was shut suddenly yesterday morning after reports of a man being seen with a knife near the school.

Eyewitnesses claimed the school caretaker, known as Mr Wells, ran and tackled a man.

He has been widely praised by parents.

Essex Police have confirmed a 53-year-old man who was arrested has been released under investigation.

That means there is no date for the next phase of the investigation.

He was held on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon.
