A busy high street will be closed for three weekends for Christmas events.

Road closures have been put in place between the hours of 5am and 6pm for the 7, 14 and 21 December in Wickford High Street between its junctions with London Road and Market Road to make way for the Wickford at Christmas events.

The events, organised by Things Made Public and part funded by Go Trade, will have a different theme each week. Saturday 7 December is being named Quirky Christmas, Saturday 14 December is Cockney Christmas and Saturday 21 December is Traditional Christmas.

All events start at 11am and finish at 3pm.

Chairman of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee David Harrison said: “We’re pleased to be working with Things Made Public who have a proven track record in delivering these kinds of events. Our high streets and town centres are our community hubs and it’s crucial that we give them all the support we can.

“These Christmas activities will boost trade and raise the spirits of the community during the festive period.”

Quirky Christmas held on December 7 promises to be very unique affair, offering something different to the traditional festive activity.

There will be a range of guests including Mariachi Rey, a three piece band who will be bringing some Mexican flavour to the festive proceedings.

A Cockney Christmas will be held on December 14, with performances from the likes of The Cockney Sparrows.

Finally a traditional christmas event will take place December 21 with sounds of a rambunctious brass band through to the delicate notes of a Christmas choir, the 21st December will provide traditional entertainment full of festive spirit.
