History: In 2013 The Chalet was redeveloped and upgraded to enable us to provide a broader range of dishes in a comfortable, eye catching environmental restaurant.

We used a local architect, contractors and builders using local materials such as Westmorland green slate for the roof, wood from low bridge end farm at St Johns In The Vale, including beech, birch, larch and oak and even conker chestnut trees to produce the feature wall. There is also a three bedroom holiday cottage attached for holiday makers.

Style of food: Home cooked comfort food with a range of dishes to suit our varied clientele. There is an ever-changing seasonal menu and a daily changing special board, using local produce and suppliers. Enjoy your meal sat by our cosy fire in winter or on our sunny terrace in summer.

Menu sample: Soup of the day (£4.74); full Cumbrian breakfast of bacon, Cumberland sausage, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, fried egg, baked beans and a slice of toast (£7.95); The Chalet Austrian breakfast, known as tiroler grostl with bacon, potato and onion cooked in a caraway infused ham stock, topped with two fried eggs (£6.95); pulled pork, black pudding, apple sauce and mozzarella flatbread (£8.50); smoked haddock chowder with potato sweet corn and parsley (£9.95); smoked Cumberland sausage stew with a smoked Brie and chutney ciabatta(£9.95); Puy lentil & mushroom hot pot with pickled red cabbage and maple roast carrots (£8.95); our seasonal special of turkey ciabatta with pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, roast potatoes, spiced red cabbage and cranberry mayo (£9.95); homemade fruit scone with jam and clotted cream (£3.25); homemade lemon drizzle cake (£3); black cherry and chocolate cake (£3)

In their own words: We aim to provide a comfortable, relaxed, friendly atmosphere with an open kitchen to enable guests to watch and interact with our happy team of chefs. We serve locals, walkers, C2C, cyclists and dog walkers even providing towels to dry off on a wet day.
